Retired Army Colonel and veteran federal technology executive to lead strategic client engagement across AI, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Quantum for NXTKey's federal government and commercial clients
NXTKey Corporation is pleased to announce that Colonel (Ret.) Kathleen “Kathy” Swacina has agreed to join the company as Chief Information Officer (CIO). In this role, Col. Swacina will lead strategic client engagement around emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Quantum in support of NXTKey's federal government and commercial clients.
Col. Swacina brings more than three decades of distinguished U.S. Army Reserve leadership to NXTKey, having served across combat (Field Artillery), combat support (Adjutant General), and combat service support (Logistics) roles. She holds the distinction of being the first female commander of the Army Reserve Personnel Command Headquarters Company and the first female G3/Operations Officer to serve on the general staff of a major Army command. During her military career, she also architected the first MPLS cloud network in the military. She went on to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff at the U.S. Army Reserve Command (USARC), with responsibilities spanning the BRAC Project Office, DCS Information Management (G6), and DCS Operations and Knowledge Management (G3).
Following her military career, Col. Swacina has held senior executive roles across the federal technology and consulting community, including Chief Information Officer at SherpaWerx, CEO of Kolibri Strategy, and Principal at Deep Water Point & Associates. She has served on the board of AFCEA International since 2017 and is a multiple-time recipient of AFCEA achievement awards; the Colonel Kathleen Swacina Scholarship was established in her honor to support emerging talent in STEM fields.
“Kathy's arrival is a tremendous win for NXTKey. Her three decades of military leadership and her firsthand understanding of the mission challenges our federal clients face give her a rare ability to build the kind of trusted, strategic partnerships that go well beyond a typical vendor relationship. As we grow our work in AI, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Quantum, Kathy will be instrumental in deepening those relationships and ensuring our clients see NXTKey as a true partner in solving their toughest technology challenges,” said Shivaji Sengupta, Founder & CEO of NXTKey Corporation.
Col. Swacina holds a Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University, a Master of Arts from Webster University, and a Master of Strategic Studies (MSS), along with professional certifications in Chief Information Officer and project management disciplines.
